Joker pt.1

A reflection on the character Arthur Fleck in the self titled film Joker. The daily struggle, the isolation and disregard felt by this character struck a cord and it was important to capture this fragile state of mind. Drawing on the heavy emotional toll not only was this an exercise in the technical aspect of creating art, creating the correct colour, tone, shade, it was an exercise in conveying the character.

It was important that a likeness was achieved, that you knew it was Joaquin Phoenix, but it was important to capture the story, the forcefully created smile that hides the opposite. The look of pain, depression and sadness in the eyes. The mood needed to be set, reflecting on nihilistic, dark behavior before him.
