‘Two of a Kind’
A recent original art commission piece where the brief was to create a painting of ‘Two Magpies’, in a modern, contemporary style, created in Oil paints on canvas.
We all know the sayings, ‘Partners in Crime’, ‘One for Sorrow, Two for Joy’ or ‘Two Magpies together, never to part’. True partners in crime down to their black and white colouring and their fierce loyalty. Often known for their intelligence and cunning. These frequently working together to achieve their desires or some mischief, its hard not to find humour in watching them.
Working quickly on the background, emphasis on neutral tone and colour to build upon was achieved. Two separate reference photos were sourced in order to create a unique composition that delivers not only on the brief, but more importantly uses a wealth of colour. Hues of greens, from Emerald to Lime, Fern to Olive, coupled with a range of shades within the Blues. Navy, Ultramarines, and baby blues to name a few. The artwork was completed with beautiful gleaming gold frame, shining in the light, that encompasses the subjects as if they are precious memories for all of time to come.
